It happened in 2012 the time they were recruiting when I came far from the village to Lusaka, we were advised to give out a k2,500 ($119.29) each and we were 10 of us, I was the only one who failed to give because I had nothing, friends were employed and they are working.

I applied for farm title deed permit from a named council on the Copperbelt and paid all dues. Before the council could sit and process my application, the council officials called me to send some money to them for my papers to be processed faster. I paid the amount they asked for but up to now, my papers haven’t been processed.

Corruption, it’s easy to gloss over the subject when we attach the fat faces and bellies of the corrupt. The pain and destruction of this vice strikes home when we instead attach the broken, hungry faces of the motherless child asking for alms on the street; the mother without an idea where the next meal will come from; the graduate who cannot find a decent job. Those are the faces less seen and less heard from the destructive trail left by corruption. That K2.2Million ($95,216) lost to corruption during 2020 would have gone a long way at alleviating some of these ills. I walked through Lusaka CBD and had those thoughts. Corrupt leaders make corrupt choices. You can stop corruption by not choosing corrupt leaders. #leadershipwithintegrity

I experienced corruption last year when I applied for a bursary at certain Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). The man who was in charge told me to meet him at a hotel which made me so uncomfortable, I asked why he wanted me to meet him in such a hidden place but he told me not to worry because he will carry condoms incase things get out of hand. I was very disappointed in him because that was a good motivational speaker, I really lost it I wanted to report him to higher authorities but again I thought about his wife, kids and family. I had to quit to avoid being used as a sexual doll whenever he feels like. I had good marks, but I lost the scholarship and so glad that I did that.
