Some 2 or 3 months ago my youngest sister who is 13 years old and her friend where hit a by a drunk driver on their way from school, they were walking from the pedestrian lane and this guy lost control followed them and hit them one after the other even when they tried to run for their lives the driver almost fled but people at the scene caught up with him, he was asked to take the girls to the nearest police to report and later to the hospital, but what hurts me most is that he was told to remain at the police station while the girls went to the hospital.
Upon coming back the drunk guy was released from police custody without knowing whether they were ok or if some medical bills needed to be sorted. My sister came home with torn uniforms and a swollen arm, part of the head and back. On that day we had no money but because the man is popular at the market, he has shops and he is married to one of our friends from way back , we decided to locate his house upon reaching there the guy came out with a cup of whiskey in his hands and had the guts to tell us he cannot help us in any way and that the issue is at the police . We had no money for x-ray, no pain killers nothing.
Fast forward to the next day when we reached at the police we were told the case was taken to another police station so we went there only to find that the guys car which was impounded has been released and the guy cleared of all charges even when bottles of alcohol were found in his car and he was drunk in broad day light. I was upset for not having money or power then pissed and hurt I hated him and I hated the police they had failed us , we went back home and we treated her after a week or 2 she got better and we got her new uniforms. This happens everyday and people die without getting the justice they deserve.
