I had just gotten my first job. We were all required to submit our fingerprints and criminal record clearance before we could start working. I went to a responsible law enforcement agency in Lusaka to get my police clearance. There I met an officer who told me that if I paid him ‘a little something’, my criminal record clearance would be out in a few minutes. I refused to do that. It took me 2 weeks to get my clearance and even then, I had to pay ‘a little something’ because someone had ‘misplaced’ my fingerprints.
